The Alternative Wedding

The possibilities are endless when planning a non-traditional wedding–everything from the bridal party’s boutonnieres to the dessert table can be customized to your unique personality. Remember that it’s your special day and there are no rules to follow.

Craft beer bars are a fun spin on a traditional bar and our clients have loved that experience. Don’t want to serve alcohol during cocktail hour? Try entertaining guests with lawn games or opt for an old-time favorite, lemonade and chocolate chip cookies. To warm up during a winter wedding, serve hot cocoa and coffee with almond biscotti or apple cider and mini cinnamon doughnuts – our Pastry Chef makes the most delicious marshmallows! A s’mores bar is always a hit among all ages (who can pass up toasted marshmallows and melted chocolate?). Fresh fruit cocktails, like our White Peach Sangria, are a cool treat during a summer wedding, giving guests something to sip while they mingle.

Though it may seem like sit-down dinners are a must at receptions, alternative options are just as acceptable. Our Event Design Consultants can help determine the volume you will need based on your party size. Barbeques work well in a more laid-back atmosphere, and tapas are perfect for couples looking to provide a lot of options of delicious food. Rather than passed hors d’oeuvres, try stations with various appetizers and incorporate comfortable furniture into the setting. For a daytime reception, a brunch complete with a bubble bar (mimosas and bellinis) is bound to be a crowd-pleaser.

End your evening on a sweet note, even if it’s not with a classic wedding cake. Choose your favorite dessert and go from there–let guests have fun with make-your-own ice cream sundaes (ask about our A La Minute Ice Cream station), or have cupcakes ready to go. Try serving mini tarts using seasonal fruit and cheesecake lollipops decorated according to theme. For the traditional cake-cutting experience without a three-tiered cake, slice into a pie as a compromise.
